On February 1, 2013, the Embassy hosted the acclaimed Merlin Ensemble Wien for a special evening concert that included works by Schubert and Mendelssohn, and three 20th century compositions by Zemlinsky, Schoenberg, and Bruch.

The Merlin Ensemble Wien was originally founded in 1991 by members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Starting out as an octet, the circle of musician was later extended. Today, the ensemble's lineup changes from show to show.

The ensemble's repertory includes, among others, new interpretations of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” Mozart’s “Lodronische Nachmusiken” and Schönberg’s “Verklärte Nacht.” The Merlin Ensemble Wien frequently partners up with modern composers including Sofia Gubaidulina, Friedrich Cerha and Christian Muthspiel. Their shows also feature performances by contemporary actors such as Ulrich Matthes, Peter Matic, Martin Schwab, Lore Brunner, Manfred Karge, Sylvie Rohrer.
