A Tradition "Wiener Kaffeejause"

The Viennese coffee houses are not only an integral part of Austrian culture but are also recognized UNESCO cultural heritage. More than just a place to get a cup of coffee, the Viennese coffee house serves as a meeting point for the exchange of ideas, opinions and creativity. Following this longstanding Austrian tradition, the Austrian-American Cultural Society together with the Embassy in Washington D.C., hosted a classic "Wiener Kaffeehausjause" with authentic sweets prepared by Austrian chef Wilhelm Jonach on February 17, 2014. Besides sipping delicious Viennese coffee and Austrian wine and munching on traditional apple strudel with whipped cream, guests enjoyed a musical performance by the renowned pianist and conductor Stan Engebretson, Director of Choral Studies at George Mason University, and the celebrated soprano Rosa Lamoreaux.
