Dear Readers,

Hannes Richter

Dear Readers,
Austrian wine has clearly become more popular in the U.S.A. over the past years. Representatives of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board and the Austrian Tourist Office, as well as an Austrian wine broker talked with Austrian Information about the primary reasons for this increased interest in Austrian wine and their current marketing strategies.

Some 30 years ago Dr. Gordon “Nick” Mueller, current President and CEO of the National World War II Museum, launched the University of New Orleans Summer School at the University of Innsbruck, which contributed significantly to a close cooperation between the universities and cities of Innsbruck and New Orleans. In an interview with Austrian Information he speaks about the different stations of his career, his current responsibilities in New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina and his continued strong ties with Innsbruck, Austria.

The sensational discovery of a substantial part of the archive of the Jewish Community Vienna is now available to the public. The rediscovered archival holdings are significant not only for their revelations of value to scholars, but also for the answers they provide to survivors of the Holocaust and their heirs.

Other topics include a conference of the Austrian P.E.N. in Taos Ski Valley, an exhibition of Georg Eisler’s works at La Jolla’s Athenaeum and a recently presented book on Mozart’s correspondence, which not only traces the development of Mozart’s personality but also gives an idea of life in 18th century Europe.

Sincerely yours,

Wolfgang Renezeder
