Kuma:

Umut Dağ’s directorial debut Kuma is an emotional family drama driven by generational issues and the gap between cultures. After marrying handsome Hasan (Murathan Muslu), 19-year-old Ayse from Turkey follows his family back to Vienna. Soon she discovers that she has really been recruited as a second wife for family patriach Mustafa (Vedat Erincin), who's first wife is suffering from cancer. While Hasan accepts the situation, the rest of the family has differing opinions.

The script by first-time screenwriter Petra Ladinigg shows the turmoil of the family trying to come to terms with Ayse and each family member's individual challenges. Based on an original idea by Umut Dağ, the drama successfully and authentically depicts the dynamics and difficulties within a family.

The Shine of Day

In their newest feature The Shine of Day, Austrian documentary filmmakers Rainer Frimmel and Tizza Covi tell the story of a pair of mismatched relatives and their awkward first encounter after many years apart. Philipp (played by prominent Austrian stage actor Philipp Hochmair) is a successful Austrian theater actor, who currently stars in a production of Buchner’s Woyzeck. Out of the blue, he one day receives a visit by the elderly Walter (played by Walter Saabel), a long-lost uncle that he has never met. First reluctant to interrupt his busy schedule, Phillip eventually lets Walter into his life. Both soon realize that each one has something to contribute to the other's life. Frimmel's and Covi's blend of reality and fiction tells a powerful story of the importance of companionship and family.
