Dignitaries, diplomats and debutantes opened the 58th Viennese Opera Ball at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York on Friday, February 1, 2013.  Long considered an international social landmark, the legendary Viennese Opera Ball is one of the great charity galas that benefits other worthy non-profit institutions. At the ball, which celebrates Austria's cultural legacy, guests could enjoy Viennese music, Austrian delicacies and a vibrating atmosphere. Centerpiece of this year's program was an opera presentation which featured puppets along with human artists, inspired by the Josef Haydn marionette opera, Die Feuersbrunst (The Burning House).

The Viennese Opera Ball in New York takes its inspiration from the famous Vienna Opera Ball in Austria and is considered one of the few 'white-tie' Balls still in existence, i.e. the gentlemen come attired in white tie and tailcoats with decorations and the ladies wear long floor-length ball gowns and opera gloves.
