Austria Goes Oscar

And the Oscar goes to......... Austria or more preciscly to Mr. Waltz and Mr. Haneke. The year is still young but already proved to be a great year for Austrian film. On Sunday, Christoph Waltz and Michael Haneke could each add an Academy Award to their already extensive collections both having previously been succesful at this year's Golden Globes. Mr. Waltz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his brilliant portrayal of Dr. Schultz in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Michael Haneke, whose movie Amour altogether received five Oscar nominations including Best Major Picture, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress, took home the statue for Austria as Best Foreign Language Film.

Our guests celebrated these victories over fine Austrian wine and exquisit Austrian delicacies at an exclusive viewing party at the Embassy.
