Wally Is Headed to D.C.’s West End Cinema

The Portrait of Wally is headed to D.C.’s West End Cinema. The fascinating documentary about Austrian artist Egon Schiele’s famous painting of his mistress Walburga will have its premier on August 3. The movie sheds light on the iconic image’s exciting history - from Schiele’s gesture of affection toward his young lover, to the theft of the painting from Lea Bondi, a Jewish art dealer fleeing Vienna for her life, to the post-war confusion and subterfuge that evoke The Third Man, to the surprise resurfacing of Wally on loan to the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan in 1997. The documentary had its U.S. debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York where it received outstanding reviews. For more information and to order tickets click here.
