The "Enlargment" Coin

A new 5 Euro silver coin was issued commemorating the enlargement of the European Union, which will increase its membership from 15 to 25 countries.

 

The reverse of the coin is a map of Europe with the new member countries clearly distinguished by small flags. Below the flags the names of the ten new members are inscribed in their own official language and each has a star. A small logo to the left of the map of Europe identifies the Austrian coin. The logo consists of a star moving forward symbolically to the future, partially encircled by an "E" representing Europe. On the obverse of the coin the traditional circle of Austrian provincial crests surround the figure "5."
